Invitation to a journey back in time: cross the millennia by discovering the history of glass, olive oil and the journey of an artist through her work.

It is in the heart of the Luberon Regional Natural Park, in one of the most beautiful villages in France, in Gordes, that this exceptional site is to be discovered.

There has always been in this lush green setting the greatest wealth of Provence: water, profusely, overflowing from all sides in clear springs which today supply streams of water. It is for this reason that this place of abundance was chosen to establish an oil mill there from the Gallo-Roman era. It is for its beauty that Frédérique Duran, painter, sculptor and glassmaker bought it in 1956, deciding to restore its splendor by restoring it and opening 3 museums: the Moulin des Bouillons, the Museum of the History of glass and stained glass and a path of monumental sculptures. This place tells a story, stories … it is the work of a lifetime, that of Frédérique Duran.

Presentation of the 3 museums

4 km from the village of Gordes, in the park which she has beautifully displayed, Frédérique Duran has built three museums.

The first is the Museum of the Moulin des Bouillons. Classified as cultural heritage (“Historic Monument”, it is built on a Gallo-Roman site. One of the oldest olive oil mills in the Mediterranean basin, preserved intact there, with all its constituent elements, including a monumental press: a whole oak 10 meters long and weighing 7 tons.

On the other side of the park, half-buried, the Museum of the History of Glass and Stained Glass evokes 7 millennia of glass history thanks to an exceptional collection of works of art, useful and scientific objects. The entire glass epic is traced there, from the evolution of stained glass from the Middle Ages to the present day, to the use of glass through the centuries, from the time of the pharaohs to NASA scientific research.

A real open-air museum, a route of 65 monumental sculptures in the park connects the two museums, Frederique Duran’s works of yesterday and today integrating very harmoniously with the natural beauty of the place.

Frédérique Duran, a life at the service of a work and a place.

Paper, canvas, duralinox and glass, these materials serve as the basis for the creations of Frédérique Duran, which all respond to form, in abundant diversity, a total, global and inseparable work.

If many achievements are installed in chapels, churches and public buildings in France and abroad, most of Frédérique Duran’s work is visible all year round in Gordes, in the heart of the Luberon Regional Natural Park.

The property acquired in 1956 by Frédérique Duran shelters not only her house and her workshop but also three museums which she created and which are open to the public every day except Tuesday, from April to October: the Moulin des Bouillons, old oil mill classified as a Cultural Heritage (“Historic Monument”) in 1982, the Museum of the History of Glass and Stained Glass, the garden of monumental sculptures.
